The local town of Surgères has a wonderful traditional covered market that is open 3 times a week and sells a fantastic range of products from across the local region. Sea food is a speciality and oysters in particular.

There are  always 5 or 6 different varieties on sale in the market.

There are 5 really good restaurants  in the town  that we would recommend,  as well as several bars.

In the La Rochelle district  half an hour away, there are reputed to be over 400 restaurants to cater for all range of budgets and taste.
